Description: Job Purpose This is a position which requires an Engineer with wide ranging skills, which include marketing skills, ability to research the market for potential engineering projects (Infrastructure roads, utilities, sewage treatment as well as MEP Building Services and District Cooling Projects), possesses sound technical and project managerial skills. This position requires knowledge of marketing and market research, identify potential Clients, follow up on potential project requirement, provide feed back to the Business Development and Engineering departments and liaise with them on technical and marketing issues. Good communication skills and a pleasant personality are key elements to establish good rapport with Clients. Technical and Managerial skills should be sufficient to provide ‘basic’ support, identify design sequences time frame, anticipate potential issues, communicate effectively at all levels and have the experience and confidence to speak for the firm in dealing with the client and where required, to direct and expedite the work. Assessment will be on the ability to identify, negotiate and secure projects in addition to client satisfaction and teamwork criteria. He/she may also be mentored and advised by Senior Project Managers. Duties … include but are not limited to … § Receives a project assignment from the Directors and Head of Engineering.§ Participates in preparing the proposal with the Business Development Team in conjunction with the Heads of Departments.§ Participates in presentations to clients.§ Participates in the preparation of the contractual agreement with the Client. Ensures that the project brief with the Client if clearly defined in the contract.§ Defines and clarifies the Project TOR (Terms of Reference), the Client’s Requirements in a CRD (Client Requirements Document), Project Deliverables and Time Schedules.§ Arranges for, assembles and collates Objective Data such as, but not limited to:Topographic Surveys and contour mapsGeotechnical ReportsExisting utilities on the site and municipal services infrastructure around the site§ Arranges for, collects and collates Subjective Data such as, but not limited to:Space programme and planning relationships from the Client or from Specialist Sub-Consultant in conjunction with the Project ArchitectApplicable building Codes, Laws and Regulations in conjunction with the Project Architect§ Reviews, verifies and validates all data received and ensures that all necessary data is available.Design Phase§ Prepares the project management plan using the template in the company manual and sets up all contract administration systems keeping the entire project team informed.§ Develops the project task list to define scope of work according to the requirements of the contract with the Client.§ Budgets and schedules each task of the project task list in conjunction with Project Architect and Heads of other disciplines.§ Assigns projects tasks, budgets, and schedule to each discipline and sub-consultant in consultation with Project Architect and Department Heads.§ Answers questions and gives daily guidance to the team.§ Accountable for the accuracy and quality of all deliverables.§ Monitors project tasks to maintain design budget, schedule and scope of work. § Carries out contract administration and ensures that all notices, requests for client instructions, approvals etc. are in accordance with the contract.§ Prepares and manages all the correspondence with the client, sub-consultants and specialists.§ Carries out the contract administration of sub-consultancy contracts.§ Prepares and maintains proper project filing, document storage management and communication procedures in accordance with firm’s procedures.§ Ensures that work requested by the Client outside the contract scope is dealt with in accordance with the contract and additional fees are agreed prior to committing significant costs. § Requests and obtains approval from Directors before performing services outside scope of work. Ensures team members do not render such services without authorisation.§ Ensures issue of invoices on a timely basis and checks accuracy against the contract before issue to client.§ Accountable for collection of past-due accounts receivable.§ Accountable for written work submitted to the client.§ Maintains close contact with client during the project and strives for client satisfaction.§ Organises and manages advertisements of bids, bid opening, tabulation of bids, copies of bid tabulations to bidders, recommendation to the client, and copies of contract documents to contractor.Construction Phase§ Arranges for appointment of supervision team.§ Holds pre-construction conference with the contractor, client, resident engineer and project architect.§ Monitors that construction is in accordance with plans and specifications through supervision of the resident engineer.§ Manages the design office support during construction to deal with site queries, design changes and other project difficulties.§ Ensures proper project handover and client satisfaction with the end product and company design and supervision services.§ Carries out project handover procedures according to the company procedures including completion of project data sheet, construction cost summary, photographs and other promotional material, document archiving and a review/critique of the project.§ Obtains client feedback on firm’s services using a standard company questionnaire.General§ Maintains a satisfactory client relationship. The Project Manager must be able to relate to clients in a mature, thoughtful, professional and pleasant manner.§ Develops, fosters and maintains strong and close relationships with present and potential clients.§ Presents a monthly report to the Directors concerning the team’s performance on the project.§ Maintains daily contact with members of the Project Management Team and frequent contact with other departments of the company. Maintain communications, both upward and downward.§ Promotes use of, and participates in the development of, company project management standards.§ Maintains neat and orderly work area which will allow access to project information to other team members. Supervisory Responsibilities, List number and titles of subordinates YesMulti-disciplinary team of variable size, depending on the project. Physical Demands of the job This position combines office with some field work. Moderately high stress may occur as a result of heavy workloads, tight deadlines and supervisory duties. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor degree in Engineering Preferred Qualifications Bachelor degree in Project Management or an advanced degree in project management. Registration required Chartered or equivalent Type of Experience required Minimum of ten (10) years experience in design and/or design management, including a minimum of 3 years experience in project design management.A working knowledge of project management software is highly desired.
